The ACA health insurance Marketplace allows some individuals and families to purchase health insurance and receive discounts.
The Marketplace also allows consumers to select between different insurance plans, and compare options. Unfortunately, open enrollment for health insurance in the Marketplace has ended. But there are still insurance options available for some people. Some people qualify for Special Enrollment.
Special Enrollment is available for some people who have had:
changes in job/income or
a change in household size or
a change in incarceration status or
a change in immigration status or
a loss of health insurance coverage or
recently found ineligible for Medicaid
If you’ve experienced one of these in the last 60 days, or will experience it soon, then you may be eligible for Special Enrollment.
Additionally, the insurance discounts are available to consumers whose income is within these ranges:
Family Size Gross Income
This income also includes Social Security, Unemployment, Retirement, and other sources. Certain expenses are not included in this income.
For free assistance to see if you qualify for Special Enrollment, or if you have any questions, please contact one of these Certified Application Counselors: Keith Phillips 573-366-4515; Sheila Ruble 573-546-0213; or call the Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596.
There is also Open Enrollment all year, if you are eligible for Medicaid/CHIP, or if you are a small business, or if you are Native American/Alaskan.
Those who do not have insurance may receive a penalty on their tax return. Some people qualify for an Exemption from the penalty. If you will not have insurance this year, and you want an Exemption from the penalty, you can call one of the Certified Application Counselors above, or see this website for a list of Exemptions: https://www.healthcare.gov/exemptions/
